Cortana is a Halo achievement tracker run by Cortana MCC. It shows public achievement data for Steam accounts and Xbox gamertags. It has no ads and no analytics, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
Looking up an account
You can look up any account without signing in. When you do, Cortana:
- fetches that account's public profile name, picture and Halo achievements from Steam or, for Xbox, through OpenXBL;
- keeps a copy of that public data in its database, under the Steam ID or Xbox user ID, so later visits load quickly and don't overload Steam or Xbox Live;
- records when a refresh was requested for an account, so it can limit how often one account is refreshed.
Only data the account's own privacy settings already make public is shown. If the account hides its game details or achievements, Cortana can't see them either.
Signing in (optional)
You can sign in through Steam or with Xbox so your own tracker is one click away. Cortana then keeps a user record with:
- Steam: your Steam ID and display name. Steam doesn't share an email address; the account uses a placeholder address that is never emailed.
- Xbox: your Xbox user ID and gamertag, and the email address of your Microsoft account if it has one.
- when the account was created and when you last signed in.
Microsoft's permission screen says Cortana may access your Xbox Live profile. Cortana uses that once, while you sign in, to read your gamertag and Xbox user ID. It doesn't read your friends, activity or anything else, and it doesn't keep any Steam, Microsoft or Xbox password or access token.
Cookies
Cortana only uses cookies it needs to work:
- your sign-in session, which lasts until you sign out;
- short-lived cookies that protect the sign-in itself and are deleted when it finishes.
Your browser also remembers, on this device only, the last tracker you viewed and your own tracker when you're signed in, so the Cortana logo on these pages can take you back. That never leaves your browser.
Guide videos play from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube may still set its own cookies once you start a video.
Services Cortana uses
- Vercel hosts the site, and Supabase runs the database and sign-in. Both keep standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for a limited time.
- Steam (Valve), Microsoft / Xbox Live and OpenXBL provide the achievement data and the sign-ins.
- YouTube serves the guide videos.
Each of these handles data under its own privacy policy.
Removing your data
- Sign out at any time from the Account popup or the home page.
- To delete your sign-in record, or to remove an account's cached achievements from Cortana, email privacy@cortanamcc.com from the address on the account, or say which Steam profile or gamertag it is. Cached achievements come back if someone looks the account up again, unless you also ask for it to be excluded.
- To stop any site from seeing your achievements, make them private in your Steam or Xbox privacy settings.
Children
Cortana isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly keep a record of anyone under 13.
